Drawn from Jan Clizer’s deeply personal travels across the UK, this collection captures the essence of the Scottish and Celtic coastline. Each image is inspired by real places where she’s stood, breathed in the salt air, and painted the mood, light, and texture of the sea and shore.
These are not just scenes...they’re stories.
They reflect Jan’s painter’s eye and deep cultural connection, offering you a moment of calm, connection, and beauty.
We hope one of these speaks to your inner Celt and lifts your spirits every time you see it.
Safe Harbour, Stornoway
Stornoway, a lovely small burgh on the northern end of the Isle of Lewis, off Scotland's West Coast. Built directly on the shore, the harbour is immediately townside, making it a brilliant place to loiter, for both people-and boat-watching!

High Shore, MacDuff
A once-bustling north Scotland fishing village, where snug cottages line the coast road leading down to the harbour. An entire culture, once based around the small oily fish called herring, has given way to modern pursuits, but the stark beauty of the place strikes deep.

The Observer
A lone gull in the Scottish seaside village of Stonehaven contemplating harbour life.....and possibly me, simultaneously. I know how obnoxious gulls can be....aggressive, noisy, smelly, etc., but still a living thing full of grace and abilities, and definitely occupying a necessary niche in the world.

King Arthur's View
Tintagel Castle, a medieval home for Richard, 1st Earl of Cornwall, once stood on a narrow-necked peninsula of the same name on the North Cornwall coast. And then there are the King Arthur legends. Great stuff for those of us who enjoy a good Celtic story!
The view here is looking north along the coast from the peninsula above the castle site. The remarkable azure blues of the water! I could have sat for days just taking it all in! I'm sure centuries of pounding waves have changed the coastline somewhat, but the essence of life throughout the ages is still there - wind, waves, water.

Gan 'Aim
October in Plockton… tourists have mostly receded, and a lovely wee picturesque village on Scotland’s west coast emerges – an artist’s mecca, I’m told, with good reason! Most of the buildings are 17th and 18th century, the harbor views are stunning, and the climate is amazingly mild for this far north (palm trees grow here!!)

About Jan
Jan is a painter and Celtic fiddler living and working in northern Idaho. Painting professionally since 1994, she began her Celtic creative odyssey in 2003 with a 6 week tour of Scotland, and continues to visit favourite haunts, friends and festivals in the UK yearly, most likely in autumn when the midgies and tourists recede!
Jan's paintings are collected and commissioned on both sides of the 'pond,' with the largest commission to date being a series of seven paintings for the Gebbers family and Gamble Sands Golf Resort in north central Washington State.
Off hours, she enjoys time with family, fiddle, friends, a big garden and ancestry and culture research.
